A flag crossing the city

To mark the opening matchday of the Serie A Enilive season, the gondoliers of the historic traghetti da parada on the Grand Canal wore the Venezia FC 26/27 Match Home Jersey.

On Sunday, August 23, to celebrate the Club’s return to Italy’s top flight, Venezia FC brought the new season’s jersey into the heart of the city and one of its oldest traditions.

In collaboration with the Associazione Gondolieri, the gondoliers of the historic traghetti da parada wore the 26/27 Match Home Jersey during their daily service, bringing the Club’s jersey into the heart of everyday Venetian life.

Before the arrival of the vaporetti and the construction of today’s bridges across the Grand Canal, the traghetti were one of the most immediate ways to move from one bank to the other. The traghetti da parada emerged precisely for this purpose: short crossings at strategic points along the canal, connecting parts of the city that would otherwise require significantly longer journeys on foot.

The initiative took place across five points along the Grand Canal: Santa Sofia, between Ca’ d’Oro and Rialto/Erbaria; Riva del Carbon, towards Fondamenta del Vin; San Tomà, between San Polo and Dorsoduro; Santa Maria del Giglio, between San Marco and the Salute area; and Punta della Dogana.

Inspired by the supporters’ flags and built around the Club’s colours, the 26/27 Match Home Jersey is available now online and at official Venezia FC stores.
