Davide Nicola appointed Venezia FC First-Team Head Coach
Venezia FC announces the appointment of Davide Nicola as Head Coach of the First Team. Nicola has signed a two-year contract, effective tomorrow, running until the end of the 2027/28 season.
Born in 1973 in Luserna San Giovanni, near Turin, Nicola began his coaching career in 2010, following his retirement as a player, taking charge of Lumezzane in Serie C.
In the summer of 2012, he was appointed head coach of Livorno in Serie B, leading the team to promotion to Serie A after finishing third in the regular season and subsequently winning the playoffs.
Following his spell in charge of Bari during the 2014/15 season, Nicola was appointed head coach of Crotone the following year, guiding the club to a historic Serie A survival.
He subsequently took charge of Udinese during the 2018/19 season and Genoa, leading the Ligurian club from the bottom of the table to safety in Italy’s top flight.
On 19 January 2021, he was appointed head coach of Torino, securing another Serie A survival. The following season, he repeated the feat with Salernitana, overseeing a remarkable comeback that secured the club’s place in the top flight.
In January 2024, Nicola took over at Empoli, once again achieving the objective of keeping the club in the division. The following season, in charge of Cagliari, he led the team to a 15th-place finish with 36 points. His most recent spell was with Cremonese last season.
Alongside the arrival of head coach Nicola, the Venezia FC first-team coaching staff will also welcome Manuele Cacicia as Technical Assistant, Gabriele Stoppino as Fitness Coach and Lorenzo Squizzi as Goalkeeping Coach.
Davide Nicola, head coach Venezia FC.
“I chose Venezia because I see a long-term vision, a strong desire to build something meaningful, and significant opportunities for growth at this club. The presence of Director Antonelli, whom I already knew, also played a decisive role in my decision, as he made me feel wanted. I’ve watched the team play in these opening matches, and I’ve seen a positive chemistry among the players. As for me, I’m incredibly enthusiastic and hungry for success. I have an immense desire to get back out on the pitch and achieve our goal of securing survival. In my profession, what matters most to me is the ability to create emotions and write chapters of history that will stand the test of time. That must be our goal, and we have to achieve it together with our fans.”
Welcome, Mister.
