The post match of Atalanta-Venezia

At the end of the match between Atalanta and Venezia FC, valid for the sixth matchday of the 2026/27 Enilive Serie A season and ending in a 3-1 victory for the Lombardy side, head coach Giovanni Stroppa and midfielder Toma Basic shared their thoughts on the game at the New Balance Arena in Bergamo.

Giovanni Stroppa, Venezia FC head coach.
“The first move we put together immediately after the opening whistle gave the impression that we had approached the game in the right way, which is what we went on to show in the second half. It’s disappointing how we conceded the goals: the first and third came after some sloppy passing, while the second resulted from a set-piece block we had worked on, and we were naive. Falling behind so early turned it into a different game. We then produced an outstanding second-half performance, although that wasn’t enough because we failed to make the most of our chances and get ourselves back into the game. This team is competitive and delivers every day, so I struggle to understand how we can make such unnecessary mistakes. The team is alive, important players are returning, and the lads are training extremely well. The result is disappointing, but I’m convinced we can respond in the right way in the immediate future. Having so many fans travel to support us is extraordinary. At the end of the match, we went over to acknowledge the boos, as was right, especially given the way we approached the game. I’ll keep working my way, head down, convinced that the work we put in every day will pay off".

Toma Basic, Venezia FC midfielder.
“It’s a difficult period, and everyone in the dressing room needs to take responsibility, keep their heads up, fight, and start scoring goals in our next game against Napoli, because we have what it takes to do better. Every team makes mistakes; the important thing is how you respond, even though it’s not easy to concede two goals so early, as we did today. One positive aspect of today’s performance was that we didn’t give up and stayed in the game until the very end. The atmosphere in the dressing room is positive, and I’m convinced we’ll get through this situation. We have tremendous support from our fans. It’s natural to feel pressure, but we need to use it as motivation to perform better".
