The press conference of Giovanni Stroppa
Venezia FC is preparing for their first official match of the 2026/2027 season against Modena on Saturday, August 15 at 8:45 PM, in the Round of 32 of the Coppa Italia Frecciarossa. On the eve of the match, head coach Giovanni Stroppa assessed the team’s pre-season progress and current condition.
Giovanni Stroppa, Venezia FC head coach:
“Pre-season has gone quite well. We are already at a good level in terms of the style of football we want to implement, and we are working on integrating the new players. Obviously, there are areas where we can improve, but we are absolutely on track with our programme. We can take a step forward in our ability to convert goalscoring opportunities, because Serie A is difficult and we need to make the most of every chance.
If someone were to arrive and improve the current squad, they would be more than welcome. For now, we have a large squad, but sporting director Antonelli knows exactly what needs to be done, and I am here to coach. In terms of our approach, I would like to see a team along the same lines as last year’s. Another area I would like us to improve is our finishing and our efficiency in the final 25 metres. Then, of course, there will be some adjustments defensively, because in Serie A the slightest mistake can be punished. The enthusiasm we feel from the fans is the essence of our work, and we have to keep fuelling it with our performances and results.
As for tomorrow’s line-up, there is still the possibility of rotating several players and seeing a few more things. The team is in good shape and there are no absences to report.
Modena are a strong team. They have brought in quality players, they have a strong identity, and they have a coach like Galloppa, whom I like. From my players, I expect an important performance in terms of mentality: I want them to win their individual duels and be dominant.”
